Tom moved to Durango in 1991 from northern New York State.  He grew up on an orchard, selling apples and raspberries at stands set up along the roadside.  He also had a business growing hydroponic vegetables in Glens Falls, NY. In 1969, he moved to Denver, CO to attend The University of Denver.  He graduated in Anthropology and Geology.  After moving to Durango, he established a successful landscape construction business that completed projects from Durango to Telluride.  His landscape business specialized in water feature installation, and received 4 awards from the ALCC in Landscape Excellence.  In 1999, Tom opened Durango Nursery & Supply, Inc.  He has a strong background in earth sciences, bringing that field into the nursery business.  Tom brings a positive attitude to work with him on a daily basis.  Outside of the nursery, he enjoys skiing, biking, cooking, and gardening.

Owner

Sue moved to Durango in 1993 from Eaton, Colorado.  She has been working in the nursery business since 1980.  Sue has been at Durango Nursery since 2005.  She has extensive experience in hands on gardening, and a broad knowledge of trees, shrubs, and perennials.  Sue excels in customer service and brings a lively sense of humor to the nursery every day.  When she is not at work, she enjoys hiking, swimming, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her dog Hazel.

Sue Herlihy
Nursery Manager

Michael moved to Durango in 2007 from Greeley, Colorado.  He is originally from Waukegan, Illinois, but lived on the Front Range of Colorado since 1975.  In Greeley he worked at a pet and garden store for 8 years where he gained a strong knowledge of bulbs, annuals, pond supplies and equipment.  He came to Durango Nursery in 2007, and since he's been with us he has broadened his knowledge to include erosion control, hardgoods, and general nursery sales.  Michael has a very strong customer service base, many years of retail sales experience, and a great sense of humor.  When he is not at Durango Nursery, he enjoys hiking, gardening, cooking, traveling, and a fun night out on the town.

Michael Hotchkiss
Inventory and Hardgoods Manager

Bob came to Durango in 1979 from St. Charles, Illinois, where he was a factory worker.  Upon moving to Durango, he got his CDL and began working as a delivery driver for several different businesses.  He also worked as a builder for a small construction company.  He came to Durango Nursery in 2006.  Since Bob began working at the nursery, he has gained extensive experience in tree and shrub identification and care, irrigation, landscape stone and mulches, erosion control, and customer service.  He adds a friendly, hard working, funny personality to the nursery; and always offers a voice of sensibility for the rest of us.  When he is not at work, Bob enjoys brewing beer, fishing, and spending time with his wife, Janette, and his two dogs, Jada and Isabella.

Bob Wilderspin
CDL Driver / Yard Technician

Paul came to Colorado in 1988 from northern New York State.  He moved to Durango in 1990 and began working in the nursery/landscaping business that year.  He began working at Durango Nursery in 2006.  He brings a strong background in woody plant care and identification, landscape and nursery irrigation, landscape construction, and customer service to the nursery.  Paul has a very friendly, open, and fun loving personality.  Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his daughters Margaret and Mary Rose, and his wife Kate.  He also loves hiking, cross country skiing, camping, playing guitar and singing.

Paul Grayson
Chief of Operations

Beth was born in Thailand and moved to the United States in 1972.  She lived in Michigan, and then moved to Durango in 1976.  Since she has been in Durango, she has worked as an apprentice to a local jeweler for ten years, and also for an indoor and tropical plant service business.  In 2002, she began working at Durango Nursery.  Beth has years of experience in trees, shrubs, perennials, aquatic plants, and retail sales.  She brings a gentle, friendly, and hard working attitude to the nursery, and excels at customer service.  In her free time, Beth enjoys spending time with her husband, Jim, and painting, making jewelry, gardening, and cooking.

Beth Flory
Perennials Supervisor


Lisa grew up in Wisconsin, where she graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.  In 1994, she moved to Crested Butte and worked in the nursery and landscaping business for ten years.  In 2004 Lisa and her husband, Walker, moved to Grand Junction, where Lisa worked for Valley Grown Nursery and Walker started his own landscape construction business.  They moved to Durango in 2007 and Lisa started working for Durango Nursery that spring.  She has a strong background in the nursery business, specifically being experienced in customer service, accounting, plant identification, and has her Colorado Master Gardener certification.  She brings a great sense of humor, a calm and positive attitude, and great customer service to the nursery.

Lisa Lowe
Office Manager | Nursery Technician

Lisa is our newest addition to the nursery, and we are all excited to have her join our staff.  She grew up in Illinois, but moved to Denver, Colorado when she was 18 years old.  She moved to Oregon in 2000, where she attended Central Oregon Community College.  She graduated in 2005 with a degree in Turf Science and Landscape Construction.  She also worked in native plant restoration while she lived in Oregon.  In 2006 she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and began working at Fossil Creek Nursery.  At Fossil Creek she gained extensive, hands on nursery experience; specifically in the areas of plant identification, nursery inventorying, operations, propagation, growing, and customer service.  Along with her nursery experience, Lisa brings a warm and easy going personality to the nursery.  We are all looking forward to learning more about her and spending time with her.  Outside of work, she loves the outdoors.
